Deck Fastening Systems The EB-TY was born out of the frustration of trying to make other deck fasteners work. Builders need an efficient way to install decking without visible fasteners.
Other common fasteners eliminate fastening through the top deck surface, but either show prominently from below on a second floor deck, or rely on steel holding teeth that bend in tough hardwoods such as PauLope, Ipe, and Mahogany. The EB-TY will prove to be the most attractive deck fastener along with the most efficient and productive installation. This is why we suggest using it on the decks that we create & build. You will find EB-TY economical, labor saving, convenient to use and attractive. Only one (1) EB-TY and one (1) screw is required at joist and board intersections. The even surface of an EB-TY deck is gained by gauging all fastening relative to the upper surface unlike all other competition. All work is done from the topside. The EB-TY automatically sets all spacing at 3/32". EB-TY's are not visible from deck surface or below the deck. The dark color blends with the shadow of the joints. These days, most carpenters use a power tool known as a "biscuit joiner" or a router, EB-TY works with either of these tools to cover the surface of a deck without any surface scarring. Installation is easy! A couple different methods can be used. One method is to lay the deck on the joists, unfastened, cutting the butt ends to align with the joist intersections (similar to laying strip flooring). Simply fasten one side of the first deck board (using screws and plugs, or nails) at the starting edge. Using the biscuit joiner or router cut a slot at each intersection with the joist. Apply an exterior construction adhesive to the joists. Now install an EB--TY in each of the slots, install screws (#7-21/4" trim head stainless steel) in each of the EB-TY's (angled @ 45 degrees). Cut slots on each side of the next board at the joist intersections and insert the slotted board by slipping slots over the exposed EB-TY's. Once again, install the EB-TY's in each of the slots, insert screws at a 45 degree angle. That's It! Continue On until the other edge of the deck is reached. Fasten the last side with plugged screws or nails. Another method - place one (1) board across joists and mark at each joist intersection, this is your template. Place a single stack of deck boards on sawhorses and align them. Using your template transfer lines to single stack Standing on one side cut slots in top board. Move that board off top, cut slots on top of next board. Repeat until all boards are finished on one side. Then go to other side and repeat process.
